Tomorrow & the future

It is summertime. The weather is warm, sometimes hot. Be happy and joyful. BE GLAD! “What is there to be glad about?” one might ask. The answer is, “Quite a lot.” In spite of the many things at home and abroad which do cause us  sadness or heart ache, there is cause to be joyful and be glad.

We are told  in the Bible that David the king of the Israelites, was a man after God’s own heart. He knew what it meant to be full of joy, because of the wonderful things God did for him. For example, he was delivered from foes like Goliath the giant and Saul his predecessor king. He also experienced God’s many blessings and kindnesses to him.

In three consecutive Psalms David spoke of being glad: in Psalm 68:3;  Psalm 69:32; Psalm  70:4. The secret of his  joy and gladness was because of his personal relationship with his creator God. David declares,

“And my soul shall be joyful in the Lord; it shall rejoice in his salvation”

(Psalm 35:9)

That joy was a spiritual joy from David’s heart. True joy is the result of a right relationship with God.

The Lord Jesus Christ, Himself, desires us to be full of joy. He says,

“Ask and ye shall receive that your joy may be full”

(John 16:24).

One can only experience true joy and gladness when one knows that Jesus has saved him or her from  sin.  If you are feeling poor and powerless— full of self-pity today, this situation can change if you call out to Jesus who died to save you from your sin.  “Jesus” means “Saviour”.

The punishment for sin  has been paid, because all our sin on Christ was laid. God wants us to live our days in thankfulness and endless praise. Even when we encounter earthly sorrows, they can end in heavenly joy.

The action that we must take is to turn our lives over to the Lord Jesus Christ, ask him to forgive us of our sins and come and live within us. If you do this TODAY, then you can sing like David,

“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, ye righteous: shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart”

(Psalm 32:11).
